At the Center for Work, Health, and Well-being, we unequivocally stand in support of Black Lives Matter. We support actions and efforts to counter systemic racism and discrimination in all forms in our society. People of color often work in jobs that place their health at risk through heightened exposures to job hazards, job insecurity, implicit bias, overt discrimination, fewer benefits, and lower wages for the same work. The COVID-19 crisis brought to the forefront the health disparities faced by people of color, who are over-represented in high-risk jobs and in essential workplaces such as grocery stores, long term care facilities, construction worksites, and warehouse distribution centers. At the Center, we study the underlying sources of these disparities and use our research to inform actions and policies to improve working conditions associated with these disparities. We will continue to engage with workers of color to ensure their voices are reflected in our research and to advocate for structural change.
